My grandmother reminded me of Ida Mae Brandon Gladney because both women left the South for economic and social reasons. These women showed that they understood social equality lead economic prosperity. Just as in today’s society, we all understand that education provides opportunities that would not be available otherwise. It is very important to see how these to disciplines shaped the decisions these women made. Both women were sharecroppers and had very little money. The thing is they both wanted more. Economic opportunity cannot be accomplished without education.
